Eloping in New England

Eloping used to mean running off without telling your family, pure Vegas style, with maybe an Elvis impersonator officiating your shotgun wedding. Well…that has completely changed!! When speaking with couples, so many just assume they HAVE to get married in a church, mostly because their family wants them to. If they had it their way, they’d want to get married in an intimate ceremony with close family and friends.

Believe me, I’m not some anti-religious person or a Grandma-hater. I actually enjoy going to church. But…elopements have become so personal and a time to connect on a deep level. My husband and I eloped in Utah, exchanging vows overlooking red rock with a breathtaking view, his best friend officiated our wedding, and my daughter said a few words on what family meant to her. We didn’t need the over the top wedding, that’s over before you know it. But what WAS important to us, was having epic photos to look back on and an adventure! We set up a little picnic after the ceremony, went off-roading and took some amazing photos in my dream dress and his custom made suit. We selected a few things that were important to us.

Elopements aren’t about excluding family- it’s about putting the two of you first, which if you’ve been to large weddings with 150-350 people it feels like there isn’t a moment the couple is actually together! So, when we got back from Utah, a few months later we threw a delayed reception in Manhattan surrounded by 50 of our closest family and friends. We celebrated over food and cocktails.

To include family, have a videographer record your vows and play it at your reception or your house afterward. Elopements don’t even have to include just the two of you anymore- some photographers allow up to 10 family members. Frame small photos of your ceremony on tables at your delayed reception, or order an album for your family to keep.

Golden hour is perfect for photographing weddings and engagements. It’s that first hour after the sun rises or the last hour before sunset. Eye For Beauty CT has the capability to do hair and makeup in remote locations. We can do onsite hair styling using hot tools and even airbrush before the sun rises. So whether the two of you really want your ceremony cliff-side, eloping near the waterfalls, desert or caves, we can make it happen!

Eye For Beauty CT hopes that elopements will stop being seen as cheap, quickly thrown together, and a secret. Elopements are incredibly romantic, intimate, and can be as elaborate or simplistic as the couple wants. Inquire about our elopement package.
